Hydrodistilled essences, C02 extracts and Florasols
We have now received the latest batch of hydrodistilled oils and C02 flower extracts. These oils, which are grown without the use of pesticides or insecticides, are extracted without using solvents such as hexane. This means a more authentic oil as close to the natural essence of the plant possible.
CO2 extraction produces superior herbal extracts for use in herbal medicine as well as aromatherapy and natural perfumery. Essential oils have traditionally been derived using either steam or hydro distillation, or extracted using chemical solvents such as hexane, heptane or ethanol. There are many positive aspects of the supercritical CO2 extraction process and the resultant supercritical CO2 essential oils. The CO2 supercritical extraction process eliminates the need for potentially harmful solvents like hexane, avoiding unnecessary environmental pollution and potential human bodily harm.
Hydrodistilled essences are produced by placing the concrete in a water bath in glass vessels and gently distilling. Only the highly volatile essences are distilled out of the concrete, leaving behind the waxes and pigments. While more expensive to produce, the hydrodistilled essences are 3 to 5 times more concentrated than the absolutes, light in color, and more easily soluble in carrier oils and perfumer's alcohol.
Finally there is an extraction method called Florasols/Phytols and this extraction method uses a new type of benign gaseous solvents. Extraction occurs at or below ambient temperatures, hence there is no thermal degradation of the products. The extraction process utilizes the selectivity of the solvent and produces a free flowing clear oil free of waxes. We hope to source a range of Florasols very soon.
